The son of a famous father, I encountered Rene Descartes as a visitor in my home....and later interacted with both Newton and Leibniz.

As a child (and even as an adult), I was interested in drawing and building mechanical models.

My mathematical discoveries include determining the quadrature of various curves and the isochronous property of a body rolling along a cycloid.

In astronomy, I discovered the rings of Saturn...but am best known in physics for my investigations surrounding either simple and compound pendulums or the reflection/refraction of light.

After the mention of the name of Newton in reverance, some consider me the "greatest scientist of the second half of the seventeenth century."
