Around and Around She Goes...Faster, Higher...

In 1884, Coney Island introduced the Switchback Railway--the world's first roller coaster. It was 50 feet high at its highest point, helping cars roll up to 6 miles per hour along a 600 foot track. The cost was 5 cents.

Today, the Kingda Ka in New Jersey's Six Flags is the fastest and highest--achieving a speed of 128 miles per hour with a maximum height of 456 feet high....and a maximum angle of descent of 90 degrees. And the cost probably has gone up considerably as well.
