Fall Fall
Some things to think about while doing your fall raking of leaves...
- The average maple tree sheds 600,000 leaves each fall
- Ten 32-gallon trash bags are needed to contain the 600,000 leaves
Question 1: Throughout the entire United States, how many maple leaves fall each year?
Question 2: How big (in volume) is this pile of leaves from all of the maple trees in the United States? That is, how many 32-gallon trash bags would be needed? Would the volume of leaves be enough to fill the Safeco baseball field in Seattle?
Note: Any idea how many maple trees are in the United States? As a start, New York State has far more than 300 million....
