Hitch a Ride

Consider these two statistical facts:
[1] For a spacecraft to escape the earth's gravitational effects, the spacecraft must travel faster than seven miles per second.
[2] The crack in a glass, when it breaks, travels faster than 3000 mph.
Question 1: Which speed is faster...the escape speed or the crack in the glass?
Question 2: Traveling at the faster speed, how long would it take you to fly from Seattle to New York?
