An alert copyreader on the Illinois State Journal could not believe it--the reporter's story of the theft of 2025 pigs.
"That's a lot of pigs," he thought. "I'd better phone and check the story."
"Was it two thousand and twenty-five pigs that were stolen?" he asked the farmer.
The farmer replied, "Yeth."
"When did it happen?" asked the copyreader.
"Thaturday," answered the farmer.
"Thanks," said the copyreader.
The story was changed to read: Two sows and 25 pigs were stolen.
