Math Ring Tone

Cell phone users can down load a new math-based ring tone called WolframTones. Basically, Stephan Wolfram, developer of Mathematica, uses his software to generate unique ring tones for each user.

The user first picks a style (e.g. rock, jazz, classical, country) and then key parameters (pitch, type of instrument). In return, you get an original ringtone, complete with a cellular automaton pattern that visually represents the undelying computational structure of the ring tone.

Wolfram claims: "Each composition is produced by running a program found by searching the computational universe, taking the pattern the program produces, and converting it to a musical score."

The cost: $2 per ring tone....click on WolframTones to start playing and get your special ring tone. As for me, I need to wait until I get a cell phone.
