Some Positive Success
A previous "Math News" rant asked for increased efforts to work with the media to provide the public with positive glimpses of mathematics. And, via resources users have sent this web site, some positive steps have been taken.
First, in February, C.B. (HA) provided some of his student's ideas for mathematics-based valentines. He mentioned this to the local press, and he got a great article out of it.
Second, in March, N.S. (Vancouver, WA) and his students created and shared a rap-video associated with Pi-Day. The press heard about the video and another great article was the result.
I am elated at these two positive results, given my own lack of success in getting my own local press to write about anything mathematical, unless it is about falling test scores.
