Mathematical Spurts

Sometimes interesting information arises that I do not know how/where to share it. For example, M.J. (Bellingham) sent me the following: "How the heck did they do this? Amazing Japanese Mall Fountain!"

You can access either the short version or the longer version. Once captured, you will probably relook at both in awe!

Mathematics certainly is involved in the creation of the fountain's effects, or at least controls the computer code. Ask students to provide their creative ideas as to how the water images are created.

The commentary others provide is interesting, but shows an unwarranted spirit of nationalism that is bothersome.
