The Good Old Days
As mathematics teachers, we sometimes get frustrated at the slowness of change in education.
Yet, things change...
My thoughts...when did it shift to Algebra II...or possibly Calculus AP from students' point-of-view?
- In 1745, arithmetic was Yale's entrance requirement
- In 1820; Harvard "overtook" Yale by requiring algebra on entrance
- Geometry became a generic entrance requirement during the Civil War in the 1860's
Also, with this evidence, it is now clear that change does occur, but one must live basically a century to notice it!
