On ebay, some one was selling the text
Useful Mathematics, copyright 1937. It led to several thoughts.
First, is there a sequel to this book, called Not-Useful Mathematics?
Second, what mathematical content would even be considered as "not-useful"? I doubt most math teachers (and students?) would agree on what is useful and what is not useful...part of the problem underlying the math wars (on the superficial level, once removed from ego-driven efforts).
And third, what would be the overlap in content of the mathematics in a 1937 text Useful Mathematics versus a 2012 text Useful Mathematics? I expect (and would hope) that things have changed.
Now, another thought, what about the sequels to the books titled Applied Mathematics?
