Taking a cross-country roadtrip this summer? Passing through Burlington, Iowa?
If yes, stop to visit the Des Moines County Museum to see this 46" x 118" stained glass window (180 pounds):
It is a picture of Hypatia, first female mathematician plus her father headed the Alexandria library in Egypt in 400 A.D.
I must admit that Burlington, Iowa, is an unexpected location for her image to appear.
The window was part of the former Burlington Library building when it opened in 1898. That is where I first saw it, and spent some time researching its history specific to Burlington.
And, you should spend some time researching Hypatia's life...and terrible death.
