Change Does Happen!
As a mathematics teacher for more than 35 years, I often worry about the slow pace of positive change.
Today, I happened to come this interesting reprint from Mathematical World News, May 1939 issue: The W.P.A. of New York City has as one of its projects the computation of certain mathematical tables, such as a table of exponential functions to fifteen decimal places and a table of the first ten powers of the integers from 1 to 1000....This is one part of a general project directed by Dr. Lyman Briggs, of the National Bureau of Standards.
So, as I clasp my graphics calculator in my right hand, I relax as one "act of the depression" moves me out of another "act of depression."
