Mathematics education lost another good friend this past week, when Lew Romagnano died after a tough struggle with lung cancer.
After teaching high school mathematics for many years, Lew became a professor of mathematics education at Metropolitan State College of Denver. His book Wrestling With Change describes his years as a change agent at the high school level.
Lew was always a strong force in promoting both change and quality in mathematics education, a leader in the classroom use of technology, a highly-respected mathematics educator who cared greatly about his prospective teachers and colleagues, and someone who always had an interesting mathematical problem to share. Plus, he was a good friend of mine and many others. Lew, we will miss you!
