Interested in a "new" experience next month? The "Inaugural" (i.e. first!) USA Science & Engineering Festival will occur in the Washington, D.C. area.
This gala scientific/mathematical affair opens on 10/10/10 via a concert of "amazing" science songs, sung by over 200 children and adults representing the University of Maryland. What, no amazing mathematics songs could be found?
The Festival organizers promise that this inaugural fair will be "the ultimate multi-cultural, multi-generational and multi-disciplinary celebration of science in the United States." It will end with a two-day Expo (10/23-10/24) involving representatives from more than 500 science & engineering organizations. The Expo will involve hands-on, fun activities (e.g. Rubik's cube challenge, video projects, lectures?) designed to inspire future generations of scientists and engineers....and possibly mathematicians?
Unable to get to Washington D.C. at that time? Then, they suggest you organize a "Satellite" Festival Event in your local community. Any ideas...any volunteers?
Lockheed Martin is the primary sponsor...even some math organizations. So, why isn't it being promoted as the "USA Science, Engineering, & Mathematics Festival"? It should be!
