Maggie J. (WWU) sent me notice about the June issue (2007) of The Smithsonian, and its article about Robert Lang's work with origami. Get a copy and save it as a teaching resource.

By day, Lang is a laser physicist at NASA's JPL...at all other times, he is the leading proponent of what is known as "technical and computational origami." He has written eight books on the subject, exhibited his origami creations in art galleries, and was the organizer of the Fourth International Conference on Origami in Science, Mathematics and Education (September, 2006).

The Simithsonian article describes Lang's work, shows some of his animal creations (i.e. the frog above), and discusses some applications of his work to air-bag deployment in cars.
