Weight vs. Length?

Which would you choose: a ton of pennies or five miles of pennies lined up in a straight line with touching edges......(assuming you wanted the most money)?

Source: Million Penny Challenge

Hint: A good start is to determine the weight and diameter of a single penny.

Solution Commentary: A penny weighs 0.09 ounces and is 0.75 inches in diameter. (How do you think someone determined these things...by measuring a single penny?)

Once you figure out the number of inches in five miles and the number of ounces in a ton, you realize that five miles worth of pennies is $4,224, which is better than a ton of pennies at $3,555.56.
