The American Mathematics Society is offering a special program that promotes "appreciation and understanding of the role mathematics plays in science, nature, technology, and human culture." The primary audience for this program is students, but teachers and anyone in your community will benefit from these resourses.

Their key outreach is a growing collection of free posters that promote awareness of mathematics--its importance and use. Mathematics teachers (and students) can download pdf files of the more than 50 posters in two different formats. Thumbnails of some samples are the following, dealing with orgami, eyesight, and cellphone use:

In most instances, a poster is accompanied with a link to a web site that serves as an additional resource. For example, the poster Solving Crimes is prompted by the television show Numb3rs, and the supportive web site is an Northwestern University professor's blog that includes commentary on the mathematics included in each show.
