Do You Look For Free Parking?

When confronted with options of either parking meters or a parking lot, I admit that I still try to find free parking somewhere...

But, consider this data:

  • 8 minutes is the average time someone spends driving around looking for a free or a better parking spot
  • 47,000 gallons of gas are wasted annually by people looking for free parking spaces in urban shopping areas
  • 100,000 hours are wasted by drivers hunting for free parking in urban shopping areas
  • A person can burn 40 calories by walking briskly instead of looking for a closer parking spot
Do you believe these statistics? How could you check on their veracity? For example, look at the third statistic....how many people yearly are lumped into this statistic?
