Your Task: Do an experiment to check the veracity of this claim. Randomly select words from a dictionary (random page, random location on page), then test if someone has registered it as a .com. Remember, it could have one of many appendages--.edu, .gov, etc. Also, about how many random words will you need to test before you have gathered enough data to comment on the claim?
