Have You Been There...Bucket List Fodder

Consider these U.S. cities, presented in alphabetical order:

  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Las Vegas
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • New York City
  • Oahu/Honolulu
  • Orlando
  • San Francisco
  • Washington D.C.
According to Tourism Industry Figures compiled by the Department of Commerce (2008), these are the Most-Visted Cities in the U.S.

Task 1: Order these cities according to their number of overseas visitors in 2005. The following market share percentages and number of visitors may help:
No. 1: (26.8%) 5,810,000
No. 2: (11.9%) 2,580,000
No. 3: (9.8%) 2,124,000
No. 4: (9.6%) 2,081,000
No. 5: (9.3%) 2,016,000
No. 6: (8.4%) 1,821,000
No. 7: (8.2%) 1,778,000
No. 8: (5.1%) 1,106,000
No. 9: (5.0%) 1,084,000
No. 10: (3.7%) 802,000

Also, do you think this data is skewed because it is based on overseas visitors (i.e. if U.S. visitors were included, would the ranking remain the same)?

Task 2: This data is from 2005. Search out other cities that now belong on this list...or changes in the Top 10 ordering.

Task 3: What percentage of the market share remains? What cities do you think would be in positions 11 and 12? This data is from 2005. Search out other cities that now belong on this list...or changes in the Top 10 ordering.
