Claim: When relaxed, humans blink their eyes over 1200 times each hour, with each blink taking less than one-fourth of a second.
Task 1: Devise a study to check on the validity of this claim. Also, as part of your study, decide if claim represents an average over a 24-hour period (i.e. do you blink your eyes as often when you are sleeping as when you are awake?)
Task 2: Assume the claim is true. How many times do you blink in one day? One year? Your lifetime?
Final Note: When you are excited, your blink rate increases more than twice your blink rate when your are relaxed. Sometimes extremes occur. For example, in the 1996 presidential debates, candidate Bob Dole averaged 147 blinks per minute.
