Your Own Personal Wal-Mart in the Year....

Like them or not, Wal-Mart stores are here to stay. Consider the following data for the number of Wal-Mart stores in the United States:
  • 1995: 2,667 stores or 1 for every 100,000 Americans
  • 2000: 3,118 stores or 1 for every 90,000 Americans
  • 2005: 3,808 stores or 1 for every 78,000 Americans
  • 2010 prediction: 4,523 stores or 1 for every 70,000 Americans
First, given the first three data values, do you agree with the prediction for the year 2010? Explain.

Second, for a fanciful adventure, in what year will there be 1 Wal-Mart store for every American? Justify....not the concept but the mathematics underlying your prediction.
