A line drive in baseball travels an average of 100 yards in 4 seconds. A fly hit to the outfield travels an average of 98 yards in 4.3 seconds.
Question #1: Assume a line drive is hit directly back at a pitcher. How long (in seconds) does the pitcher have to react and catch the ball?
Question #2: Assume an outfield fly is hit to the warning track in the gap half-way between a left fielder and the centerfielder. How long (in seconds) do the two outfielders have to react and catch the ball...plus how fast must they run to get into position to catch the ball?
Note: Use data from any major league ball park in answering these questions.
