The Smoking Gun on Cigarettes

The data is available and quite clear:

  • 154,761 cancer deaths each year in the United States...attributed to smoking
  • 148,605 cardiovascular deaths each year in the United States...attributed to smoking
  • 98,007 respiratory disease deaths each year in the United States...attributed to smoking
  • More than 22,000,000,000 cigarettes sold each year in the United States
  • $3.45 is the cost of medical care for smokers in the United States...per pack of cigarettes sold
  • $3.73 is the lost productivity due to medical complications of smoking...per pack of cigarettes sold
The problem is clear...but how to solve it?
