The Ugly Side of Life via Chris Jordan's Art
Some websites need few comments from me...in fact, the less...the better. Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait is one of those.
This creative work of artist Chris Jordan (Seattle) is a collection of images that "looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics." His hope is that "images representing these [statistical] quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone, such as we find daily in articles and books. Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning" of socially depressing data. His project (which needs to be seen in person) creates large visual images produced by thousands of smaller photographs.
Enough...go to Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait...enjoy and learn...and share the web site with others...students, parents, anyone.
Note: I first recommended Chris Jordan's work in October of 2007...and am recommending it again because he has added some new "troubling" pieces.
