The "Olde" Resource You Have Always Wanted!

In the past ten years, you perhaps have enjoyed some of the problems included in the "Golden Oldie Section." If so, you now have a special treat in store!

I now announce the release of a new website Olde Math Story Problems. It is a data base of more than 1600 historical problems, including many of those shared via MathNEXUS. The selected problems are connected with mathematical topics, skills, and concepts taught in secondary schools and colleges.

The problems are categorized within several broad areas:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Trigonometry
  • Number Theory
  • Probability
  • Statistics
  • Pre-calculus
  • Calculus
  • Logic and Proof
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Recreational Mathematics
Revealing international contributions and changing cultures, the problems span the full history of mathematics (2000 B.C. 1940). They have been collected from more than 500 textbooks and historical resources.

Also, in response to numerous requests, each problem statement includes its source and varying amounts of solution commentary (I try to not spoil the problems for you).

Enjoy....I hope this new website proves to be of good use to you. Also, I enjoyed creating it...including spending too much time playing with the problems myself.
